About Me
My love of the Ocean drove me to attend the United States Naval Academy and receive a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography. Having chosen oceanography, which is a highly focused scientific field, I was worried about future applications. I began investigating geographic information systems (GIS) and developed an interest when I discovered its broad range of applications. While taking the Introduction to GIS class at the University of Utah, I attended a lecture about GIS given by Dawn Wright, Chief Scientist at ESRI. After the lecture, I talked with her about the application of GIS and oceanography since oceanography was in her background as well. Based on her presentation and my brief discussion with her, I can also envision myself doing many great things by marrying GIS with oceanography.
